BREAKDOWN

We began developing the system with a walking-loop animation of the Jaguar. We continually refined and delivered new renders until it was readable and pleasant to look at. It took some time to get the right look and get sign off, so we could later apply the system to other animals. Eventually, we also changed the animation of the Jaguar, as we needed something more dynamic.

Once we got the final system approval, we were able to incorporate the finalized animations and the rest of the animals into the “abstract constellation system”.

In order to create a smooth transition between the mapping world and the world of drones, Project on Walls asked us to create a dispersion effect, though it was not ultimately needed.

Below you can see some initial testing. During this period of work, we discovered that the design that worked well on screen did not translate well into successful visual mapping. To improve readability, we added larger white dots, increased the dark areas behind them, and added a dotted line to reinforce the animal silhouette.
